Today was a special day! We had 24 kids and not one of them could hear as we do. They are from a deaf school designed to prepared them for public school. They were some of the most wonderful kids!

Everything was new and excitingly scary. They respected each other better than many sixth graders we've had, these kids being from age 4 to 13.

I learned a few more signs so I could communicate simple things like sit, touch, don't touch, and I love you. We even explained to these little kids why a pigeon was inside the snake cage!

Laura presented the gospel well. It came down to a few simple true statements and John 3:16.

I tried to not speak any words all day. It was in hope that I wouldn't forget and think they could hear me. It taught me a lot about deaf people.

I watched and learned that there were things that I hadn't thought about. How you can not talk with someone if your riding a horse...you need two hands to talk with. You cannot scream or laugh to communicate excitement or fear...but you could bang on something and feel the vibrations. When something comes up from behind you, there is no way you could ever know it was there...we so relay on sound. When your talking with someone, no noise can distract you from them...even the bus pulling up while the speaker is sharing the gospel.

Little things like this really made me grateful that God gave me ears that hear, eyes that see, and feet that walk.
